How Can You Avoid Inferior Scar Fading Products
And Choose One That Will Actually Work?
"Not All Scar Products Are Created Equal."
Before you buy a scar fading formula, it's important you know what you're buying. Fly-by-night product manufacturers are rushing to create their own version of a natural scar fading product and "cash-in" on the new phenomenon of fading scars and optimizing skin health, naturally.
Beware, many of the products out there claim to have the best product, but most of them either don't have enough key natural ingredients to be effective or use poor quality synthetic versions. And more importantly, most products do not use the proper dose found beneficial in clinical studies.
Effective results with natural scar fading products are mainly dependent on the quality of the formula you buy*. So before you purchase, make sure the scar product that you choose meets all the top criteria.
Why Are Natural Scar Fading Products The Most Popular Approach Today?

Scars appear as a result of the laying down of fibrous tissue, also known as collagen. Unlike the original skin tissue, this new collagen is laid down but in a different way and therefore is not the same and looks different. Scars are made worse if they take longer to heal as more time allows for more collagen to be deposited thus leaving a more visible and unsightly scar.
Many clinical studies have been published on skin health and scar fading. In these, studies on several key natural ingredients have demonstrated a vital role in assisting enhanced skin healing and repair to help fade scars. These ingredients include a range of vitamins, minerals, natural oils and traditional herbal remedies steeped in historical usage. Ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract, Allantoin and medical grade silicone have been clinically tested to ascertain the benefits when treating scars. All You Need To Know About Scars
And How To Help Fade The Appearance
OK, first things first - it's important to understand what scars are and what you can do to ensure that they heal properly and appear less visible.
Scars result after the body's healing process repairs the skin after it has been damaged or suffered trauma. Most wounds result in some degree of scarring which will form after a wound is completely healed. Scars can be the result of surgeries, disease, or injuries.
Scars form due to the deposit of a fibrous tissue called collagen. Collagen is present in our skin already but when a wound is healing, this new collagen is laid down in a different pattern, thus leaving the skin looking different. The visibility of scars is affected by several factors such as the nature of the injury, how soon you receive treatment for it, age, and race. Scars appear worse if the skin contains high levels of melanin.
Skin regeneration occurs constantly, however, once a scar has formed new skin cells do not form in the location of the scar. In time, the scar may fade but it never completely disappears. Getting early treatment and being proactive to help the skin repair itself faster, is of the utmost importance to ensure the scar is less visible. As clinical studies suggest, several key ingredients can help to speed the process of healing and promote new skin regeneration - so be aware.
What Type Of Scars Are There?
There several different types of scars: keloid, contracture, hypertrophic, atrophic, and stretch marks. The correct treatment of scars depends on what type of scar you have. So, it's essential that you know your scar before treating it in order to achieve good results.
Scars are very often unsightly, embarrassing and can actually be painful. Due to the high cost of treatments for fading scars, many people are choosing alternative natural remedies to help reduce the visibility of scars. These healthy alternatives are safe, effective, low in cost, and very popular.
What Medical Treatments Are Available For Fading Scars?
There are various medical treatments available to help fade the appearance of scars. The treatment you choose will be depend on the type of scar you have and how quickly you seek treatment.
If you become scarred (accidentally or through surgery), it is important that you get treatment as soon as possible as early intervention can assist in ensuring the scar heals more effectively, and is less visible.
Here, we list some of the treatment options that can help heal scars and fade their appearance:
- ●Laser Treatment - A good choice for non-surgical fading of scars is to use a strong light beam to smooth the surface of the scar tissue. Laser treatments do not work on all types of scars, and are favored for acne type scarring. It is noninvasive and can offer good results. However, laser treatments are expensive, costing on average up to $1000 per session, with an average of four sessions needed.
- ●Steroids - Steroids can be given by either injection or applied directly. After wounding, the body starts to heal itself and it produces, via the adrenal glands, steroids which help the body to repair itself. Generally, steroid injections are used on keloid type scars and can be administered for up to 2 years. There are possible side effects however, including suppressing the body's own response to healing and negative effects on the adrenal glands.
- ●Chemical Peels - This procedure involves using a strong acid, usually alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), or beta hydroxy acid (BHA) on the scar to cause renewed skin tissue regeneration. This is favored for treating acne, age spots, and small scars. A session will set you back around $150.00 a session. Results vary between individuals and the length of time it takes to see results will depend on the quality of the products that are used.
- ●Radiotherapy - This technique is used to help break down scar tissue. There has been limited clinical trials to ascertain any long term negative side effects and the jury is still out about the actual effectiveness. Additionally, as this procedure is undertaken mainly within a hospital, the cost is very high.
- ●Semi-Occlusive and Pressure Dressings - The effectiveness of dressings to aid wound healing has been looked at in depth for years. It involves placing a sheet of silicone gel over the wound, sealing in moisture which in turn increases hydration to the top layer of the skin. This softens the tissue, increases skin regeneration and thus reduces the appearance of the scar and aids healing. In terms of cost, this is a relatively good value. However, there are many studies to suggest that this alone is ineffective.
What's The Science Behind Scar Fading Products?
And Do They Really Work?
Natural scar fading products are very safe to use and are being favored more and more over prescription medication, which can often leave behind nasty side effects in its tracks. Specific key ingredients have been shown to help heal, nourish skin and help fade the appearance of scars.
The problem is when manufacturers don't pay attention to the research and produce ineffective formulas that simply will not get the results you are looking for. Always check the label and look for pure, natural ingredients backed by clinical studies and research. Synthetically grown ingredients in a lab and low amounts of key natural ingredients in a product will essentially make a product ineffective.
Key ingredients that have been identified as being helpful in the treatment of scars include medical grade silicone, Aloe Vera, Onion Bulb Extract, Jojoba Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Safflower and Allantoin to name but a few. There are various studies and research demonstrating key ingredients shown to be an effective course of treatment when it comes to fading scars. Details can be found on our clinical study page.
Medical procedures come with pain and sometimes, difficult recovery times. They may also not be long-term solutions with the need to undergo the procedure again.
Natural solutions, home remedies, and lifestyle changes, which includes the use of natural herbal supplements, is an excellent long-term solution for fading the appearance of scars. But make sure you only buy a premium scar fading product that will actually help and get you the results that you are looking for.*
Studies: Natural Scar Healing & Fading
Summary Of The Clinical Studies And Research
After natural scar fading treatments were discussed on TV by the world's most famous doctor, the sales of natural products for fading scars went through the roof. To be clear, he does not endorse any specific supplements or products per se, but he does give some guidelines about natural methods of healing scars, fading their appearance and nourishing optimal skin health.
Scars can affect anyone at any point throughout their lives. Male, female, child or adult, scars are an inevitable part of being human. Many studies have been carried out and published in a range of journals regarding the effective healing of scars. A landmark clinical study published in the Journal of Wound Care, showed that treating scar wounds with natural ingredients such as Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract can positively improve the appearance of scars and aid healing. Furthermore, by using this natural ingredient in combination with an occlusive silicone dressing, effective results can be increased with fewer side effects when compared to other medical treatments available.
Clinical Study: Natural vs. Clinical Interventions
The clinical study was published in the Journal of Wound Care and focused on a total of 60 patients. Researchers designed the study to evaluate the therapeutic activity of topical onion extract on hypertrophic and keloid scars, specifically looking at scar elevation, redness, hardness, itching, and pain.
It was a comparative prospective study, undertaken over a period of 6 months. Participants were both men and women of varying ages and they were divided into three groups. Group I was treated with onion extract alone, group 2 with silicone gel sheet alone and group 3 with a combination of onion extract and silicone gel sheet.
The Results Of The Clinical Study
The results found that there were significant differences between the color parameter between group I and group 2 and in the height parameter between group I and group 3. The onion extract was more effective in relation to scar color, while the silicon gel sheet was superior in decreasing the height of the scar. In addition, the most effective therapeutic results were obtained when the silicon gel sheet treatment was combined with onion extract in group 3. There were no noted serious side effects with the treatments.
In summary, a combination of onion bulb extract and silicone positively affected the appearance and scar height. Natural ingredients, therefore, may be a very effective way to heal wounds and fade the appearance of scars.

ScarDerma™ Proprietary Blend of Ingredients

Onion Bulb Extract (Allium Cepa)
Onion bulb extract has been clinically shown to positively affect the healing process of scars due to its phenolic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. Quercetin, which is found within onion extracts, is known to provide anti-histamine properties to positively benefit the skin once wounded. Several clinical trials have shown that onion extract can significantly improve scar softness, redness, texture, and general appearance due to its anti-inflammatory benefits.

Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius)
Safflowers provide a valuable source of linoleic acid, which is a fatty acid important for protecting the integrity of plasma membranes and growth, reproduction, skin maintenance, and general body functioning. As well has occlusive benefits (acting as a protective barrier to prevent moisture loss from the skin), it has been shown to prevent dryness, reduce roughness, and soothe angry skin. Studies have also shown that linoleic fatty acids promote wound healing and scar attributes in the treatment of surgical, traumatic, or burn wounds and scars.
